VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION

Volunteer action is a hallmark of civil society, rooted in citizenship and social responsibility, and shaped by our concern for and obligation to one another within the community we share. However the nature of volunteering and how it is integrated with lifestyle realities has shifted dramatically in the last few decades. Pressure on the volunteer sector has increased due to decreasing in social services available in the present economic times.

The Ontario government also acknowledges the importance of volunteer services in a Government speech from the Throne on September 27, 1997. It was at this time that an Advisory Board was assembled to study the climate of volunteer service on Ontario today.

VCARS of HN recognizes the dedication and commitment of our volunteers over the past year by providing a special evening in their honour. Volunteers are shown appreciation for various aspects of service to VCARS. This year's dinner will be held on June 2002.

There's a special place in Heaven set aside for VCARS Volunteers Furnished with big recliners, satin couches and footstools, Where there are no fundraising committees, No silent auctions or dances, No Draw tickets to be sold or flyers to be hung, There will be nothing to bring or staple. Not one thing to fold or mail; telephones and fan out lists will be outlawed. You ask, "Who are these privileged few?"
